CAROLE BRINGS FINANCIAL HOPE TO FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES

NEW TITLE

Bristol-based TV star Carol Vorderman is urging the owners of small UK businesses to apply for funding to help them grow in 2022.

The former Countdown presenter is working with Starling Bank on its Take Flight initiative, which will see 10 firms each receive a £5,000 bursary and business support to “seize new opportunities” in the new year.

The winners will be picked by a panel of experts, including Ms Vorderman, as well as Somerset-based founder of Explorers Connect Belinda Kirk; Dream Nation founder Claud Williams; and Chika Russell, founder and chief executive of Chika’s Foods.

The media personality said the funding could be used for anything from an accounting course to a new website to a marketing campaign.

Ms Vorderman said: “Small businesses have faced a lot of turbulence this year, so it’s encouraging to see so much optimism for 2022.

“As an entrepreneur myself, I know there’s always more I can learn as my business grows, so whether you’re a one-woman band or you lead a team, Take Flight’s expert guidance could help your business fly even higher.”

Research from Starling Bank paints a positive picture of the year ahead, with small businesses planning to increase revenue, on average, by 11%.

Of the 1,046 UK small business owners surveyed, more than three quarters (76%) said they were planning record financial investment in their companies, while a similar amount (73%) said they would devote more time to their business than ever before.
